OVERVIEW
The Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission has sponsored artist residencies throughout the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District. The Commission began an Art in Transit program, which brought professional visual artists to middle school arts classes to create original works for the Chapel Hill Transit buses. This was a collaboration among the Public Arts Commission, Chapel Hill Transit, and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District. In 2004 a temporary public art installation entitled "THINK" was erected at the Chapel Hill Police Station, created by Phillips Middle School Advanced Sculpture Students under the direction of an artist in residence sponsored by the CHPAC. Artists@Work is the current CHPAC artist in residency program, wherein each year a professional artist leads a project with one grade level of a Chapel Hill or Carrboro elementary school.
